The 7th International Workshop on Plasma for Cancer Treatment (IWPCT-2021) was held online on the 29th and 30th of June, 2021. The workshop, organized by members of the PlasMED lab, and co-chaired by Dr. Cristina Canal and Dr. Cédric Labay, was a big success.

Several members of the PlasmaMed Lac actively participated in the 31st Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB 2021) with 3 oral presentations.

Dr. Cristina Canal, together with PlasmaMed Lab PostDocs Dr. Albert Espona and Dr. Francesco Tampieri and PhD students Miguel Mateu and Milica Zivanic presented their work at the 1st Training School - “Fundamental aspects on Plasma Medicine”.

Therapeutical applications of Cold Plasma (PlasTHER) is a COST Action project that sets a collaborative network of specialists designed to coordinate European activity in the plasma medicine field, and promotes the development of a coherent European research programme. This pluri-disciplinary network, coordinated by Dr. Cristina Canal, integrates experts in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and medical doctors from 24 countries, coming from various sectors in academia, businesses, and healthcare.

Dr. Cristina Canal offered an Invited talk on the "Challenges in Plasma-Conditioned Liquids and Hydrogels for Cancer Treatment" at the Plasma Processing and Technology International Conference - Plasma Tech 2022, held in Barcelona from the 27th to the 29th of April, 2022.

PhD student Xavier Solé has joined the Polymer Chemistry and Biomaterials Group (Ghent University) for a 3-month research stay under the supervision of Dr. Lana Van Damme.

Cristiana Bucci has joined the PlasmaMED lab for a 4-month Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM), funded by PlasTher COST Action CA20114.

The European Research Council has awarded Dr. Cristina Canal a Proof of Concept grant to assess the feasibility of bringing to market a novel therapy to treat osteosarcoma that promotes bone regeneration with less side effects than current treatments.

Dr. Miguel Mateu, second PhD. student to complete his doctorate as member of the PlasmaMed Lab. He focused on the "Evaluation of biological effects of atmospheric plasmas in bone cancer" for his PhD thesis, which was co-directed by Dr. Cristina Canal and Dr. Juan Tornín.

Dr. Cristina Canal, Dr. Albert Espona and Dr. Francesco Tampieri have recently attended the 1st Annual Meeting of the COST Action “PlasTHER: Therapeutical Applications of Cold Plasmas”, held together with the 9th International Conference on Plasma Medicine (ICPM9) in Utrecht (The Netherlands), from June 27th to July 1st, 2022.
